About This Project

Heartbreaker is a film concept website for director Ryan David, following high school students Michael and Jennifer through a wild 1999 prom night involving drug dealers, cops, and drag shows.

We built a complete brand identity from scratch, crafting a distinctive Y2K aesthetic saturated with vibrant pink-to-yellow gradients, retro serif typography, and nostalgic late-90s visual language; evoking the energy of films like Go and True Romance while capturing the moment just before digital culture exploded.

The Webflow site transforms the browsing experience into pure 1999 nostalgia through meticulously crafted custom code and interactions. Users enter through a password-protected gateway, and encounter a Dell computer startup screen. Upon entering the site, users land on a fully functional Mac OS 9-style desktop interface complete with functional File and Edit menus.

Every page is constructed as a clickable desktop icon. Icons for the Film Synopsis, Characters, Dream Cast, Director Bio, Inspiration Films, and more, all open authentic window pop-ups displaying content. AI-generated are for concept art to depict Character construction and film scenes.

The site includes two fully playable embedded games, Snake and Breakout, pushing Webflow’s capabilities to recreate an entire computing experience that feels like time travel.

Heartbreaker is password-protected. Please use the following password to access the site: Heartbreaker</3
